Rich Stromberg, sustainability consultant, MEM

Rich engages communities and teams at the intersection of food, energy, water and waste - critical factors for long-term sustainability and resilience. He has extensive experience working with Indigenous communities of the far north in Alaska and Canada to facilitate their own energy vision and guide them through conceptual design through implementation of community-scale energy and efficiency solutions. Following a 20-year career as an engineer in high tech, Rich focused his studies on journalism before running the wind and solar energy programs for the State of Alaska. He has lived off-grid since 2006 and is presently a faculty researcher and lecturer for energy and environmental sustainability with two universities. Rich is an advocate for the triple bottom line of ecology, equity and economy and believes that social concerns must be understood during problem definition and cause analysis so that they can be part of a comprehensive solution space.
